  • Tree Pruning

Pruning will help to maintain a healthy, aesthetically pleasing and safe tree.

The various types of pruning that we perform are:

Crown Lifting        -     This lifts the lower branches to allow access, improve light to lower levels, and prevent branches causing a nuisance.

Crown Cleaning    -  This includes the removal of any deadwood within the tree, and also removes any crossing branches which may be rubbing together and causing potential weak points which could cause a branch to fail at a later date. Any diseased or dying branches would also be removed, along with any man made objects such as string, rope, shopping bags etc.

Crown Thinning    -    This involves the removal of branches from within the crown of a tree so as to allow more light to penetrate, or to lessen the load on weak branches. This practice is now not thought to be necessary for the health of a tree, and may even be detrimental by removing too much photosythetic material. However, some trees can develop very dense crowns with a lot of epicormic growth (suckers), for example Tilia x europaea, and this secondary growth is weakly attached to the tree and can become dangerous if left to get too large. So, if done in conjuction with a Crown Clean, a Crown Thin can be a useful tool to maintain the health and aesthetics of a tree.

Crown Reducing       -    This type of pruning needs to be done with great care and precision. In the past (and in fact still seen today), the practice of 'Lopping and Topping' was seen as good Tree Surgery. However, a tree which has been left with most of the crown removed and ugly stumps sticking up all over the place will struggle to survive. Most of these stumps will die back to the nearest side branch and the tree will not be able to heal itself due to the presence of a dead 'peg' blocking the wound. At New Park Trees & Landscapes we take care with Crown Reductions, and hardly ever perform them on mature trees. A Crown Reduction can be a useful tool in maintaining  the size of a tree, but care is taken not to remove too much of the Crown, and to always pruning back to a side branch no less than one third the size of the branch being removed.

  • Tree Felling and Dismantling

If a tree needs felling or dismantling then we are equipped to tackle trees in the most challenging locations. It is very rare that you can clear fell a tree, unless you are in a wood or a field. It is more likely that you have a green house or a pond to avoid. Therefore we apply the most up-to-date climbing and lowering techniques in order to safely dismantle the tree in small sections in order to avoid damage to property.

  • Woodland Management

We can carry out woodland management tasks like felling trees, clearing undergrowth, pesticide spraying and tree planting. Woodland management plans can also be set out and implemented.

  • Hedge Reducing and Trimming

One of most regular jobs is reducing the height of Leylandii hedges which have got out of control. These are expertly reduced in height and trimmed. Also from September to March (outside of the bird nesting season) we carry out a lot of Hedge Trimming to maintain peoples' boundary hedges.

  • Hedge Laying

We carry out traditional hedge laying as part of a sustainable and effective method of managing a hedgerow. Laying the hedging trees creates a strong and formidable barrier, either for security in a garden, or as an effective method of keeping stock in a field. It is also excellent for wildlife and a good, thick hedge can act as a 'corridor' between areas of woodland for small mammals and birds, so improving the biodiversity of the area.

  • Tree Planting

We undertake tree planting jobs, from individual standard trees to planting up whole areas of woodland. All of our planting and tree staking techniques are in line with current industry best practices.

  • Garden Maintenance

We carry out garden maintenance for many customers throughout the year. These jobs can be on a regular basis through out the year such as grass cutting, pruning, leaf collection  and general garden tidying; Or some customers just require our services once or twice a year to prune all of the shrubs and climbers, and have a general clear out of dead leaves etc. This is usually done in the spring at the start of the growing season, and then in the autumn at the end of the growing season.

  • Fencing

Fencing is a regular job that we undertake. All sorts of fencing projects are undertaken, from post and rail or wire netting livestock fencing, to basic larch lap panel fencing, or more extravagant panel fencing.

  • Landscaping

If you require a new landscape for your property we can provide this services. Paving, turfing, raised beds etc. can all  be carried out to your specificastions and budget.

  • Conservation

All our work has conservation in mind. When doing any tree, shrub or hedge work, especially in the nesting season, a thorough check is always carried out for any birds nests or evidence of bats. We also try to encourage the planting of native tree and shrub species wherever possible as this will benefit the native wildlife in this country.

  • Green Waste Recycling

All of the green waste and timber that we produce is recycled in one way or another. Most of the branches from our work are chipped using a wood chipper and the wood chip is donated to a local nursery. Any other green waste produced is shredded and composted at a local recycling facility. All of the timber is used as firewood, either retained by the customer, or split into logs and sold on by ourselves.
